I am the Owl
Who sits by the River
In the Moonlight
My eyes are alert and keen
My head turns a wide arc
From my perch I see much.
My voice is soft and soothing
Whoo, whoo … Who, who…
Do not forget that I am here.
I’m not the bright and brassy,
The flamboyant Peacock
Who struts and clatters.
Nor the bossy and scolding,
The busy Jay
So curious and raucous.
But rather one
Who sits and sees.
I still myself … stay silent …
And trust
That the River is enough.
